Two shows in April
:David Mitchell’s one-man show, Lip-Schtick: Nine Personalities, One Small Problem, in Pinkerton at VLT
The one-man tour de force, David Mitchell, brings his gender-bending comedy back to Venice Little Theatre’s Pinkerton Theatre for the third time with two performances on April 20 and 21, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. His show, Lip-Schtick: Nine Personalities, One Small Problem has sold out all previous performances in Venice, including the last run in January 2008. Tickets are $20.00 and are available now at the box office, online at
www.venicestage.com or by phone at 488-1115.The show is a production of the Theatre Guild of VLT, which presents concerts and cabarets throughout the season as part of their fund-raising mission.
In Lip-Schtick, Mitchell gives us ‘Scarbie’, an aging former Vegas showgirl with a problem, actually multiple problems, which manifest themselves in the form of a line-up of beloved and recognizable television personalities.
‘Scarbie’s primary alter ego is David, an actor who leads the audience through the mostly positive experience of growing up gay. Set in a dressing room, David’s touching storytelling allows ‘Scarbie’ to seamlessly evolve from Lily Tomlin to a totally different character right in front of the audience.
The show premiered in Provincetown MA, part of an upcoming television documentary titled "Ptown Diaries," and was recently re-staged in Sarasota for the 25th anniversary of MCC Church of the Trinity.
Mitchell is a frequent performer. A fine-arts graduate of Skidmore College, he produces figurative sculpture in clay for numerous galleries and - not content with a single career - also is a beach-grooming tractor operator, waiter, drag performer crowned "Showgirl of the Year 2005," and once owned an ice cream store on Cape Cod with Richard, his life partner of ten years.
The theatre is located at 140 West Tampa Ave. on the island in Venice. The Box Office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and an hour before each performance. Tickets may also be charged by phone at 941-488-1115 or online at www.venicestage.com.
