Apartment 3A continues Stage II seasonFor VLT’s upcoming Stage II production of Jeff Daniels’ Apartment 3A, the cast requested that their show T-shirts (which the theatre gives to cast and crew of each show) say "It borders on the maniacally romantic". And that very well describes this tender story.
Apartment 3A, part of the 2007-08 Stage II season, opens in Venice Little Theatre’s Pinkerton Theatre on January 10, 2008 and continues until February 3, 2008 with performances Tuesday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets are $23 and are on sale now in the theatre’s box office, by phone at 941-488-1115 or online at www.venicestage.com
Daniels, known primarily as a popular film actor, is an increasingly important American playwright and founder of The Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, Michigan, where many of his works debut. This play is the third VLT production of a Daniels’ play: the earlier productions were Boom Town and The Vast Difference. Boom Town captured top honors by both major area critics as Best Play of the 2003-04 season.
One of the New York reviewers called this "a serious, soul-lifting comedy . . . It’s a window into the love life of a spirited young idealist named Annie Wilson, ardent crusader for public television, blown apart by one man and put back together by another. . . "
Apartment 3A centers on Annie Wilson, Director of Fundraising for Public Broadcasting Channel 68, who is faced with a series of dilemmas in her personal and professional life – from whether to cancel Sesame Street to whether to fall in love again. Pursued by one man, she pursues another . . . to a fascinating and mysterious conclusion. In the role of Annie is Sara Trembly. Bill Czarniak is Donald, her new neighbor and Jeremy Stone is her co-worker, Elliot. Lynne Buhle plays Dal and Ric Curcio is Tony. They are directed by Dan Higgs.
Scenic design is by Steven Mitchell, who designed VLT’s A Streetcar Named Desire earlier this season on the theatre’s MainStage. Chris McVicker is Lighting Designer and Priscilla Boyd is Costumer. Dorian Boyd is Sound Designer.
The theatre is located at 140 W. Tampa Ave on the island in Venice. The Box Office is open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday and opens one hour before all performances.
