Adults acting for children:
VLT will audition for 2008 Troupe in A Trunk tour to schools
Venice Little Theatre’s Troupe in A Trunk, a touring group of ‘adults acting for children’, will audition for its 2008 tour on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Auditions will be held at the theatre in The Education Studio.
Director Sandy Davisson is looking for six adults to play roles in a production of Robin Hood, the classic story of the dashing yeoman whose fight against tyranny and injustice in Middle Age England saves the kingdom of King Richard and exposes the foils of Prince John. Along with the character of Robin, Davisson will be casting the beloved characters Friar Tuck, Maid Marian and Little John, among others. Davisson is also seeking someone to serve as Stage Manager for the tour.
Those auditioning are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and footwear as floor movement will be required. They should also note that rehearsals and performances will usually take place during the week and during school hours. Scripts are available for perusal by contacting Davisson or Clair Lockeyear at 941-486-8679.
Troupe in Trunk is an outreach program of Venice Little Theatre. The Troupe brings live theatre to South County elementary schools using a minimum of set pieces, costumes and makeup. The performances are offered to the schools free of charge. For many students it’s their first experience of live theatre and it is the goal of the Troupe to stimulate students’ imaginations and to create a bridge to the performing arts.
The Troupe cast will begin rehearsals at the theatre in mid-February and launch their tour in April. A few performances, to which the public will be invited, will be scheduled at the theatre in April. All performances are free.
In advance of performances at area schools, VLT provides study guides to teachers to prepare their classes. Afterward, feedback and assessments are sought from the schools to help the theatre in its planning for coming seasons.
Additional information about Troupe and this year’s tour is available at the www.venicestage.com or at the office of Education and Outreach at Venice Little Theatre. Call Sandy or Clair at 941-486-8679.
The theatre is located at 140 West Tampa Avenue on the island in Venice.
