DESTINATION Imagination!
This years play is The Pied Piper of Hamlin, by VT's own playwright in residence Ronald K. Myroup. The 16th century legend expanded into a narrative in which the Piper is a rat catcher hired by the town to lure away the rats with his magic pipe. The citizens refuse to pay for the Pied Piper's service so he rataliates by turning his magic on the children, leading them away. The moral or lesson of the play is that it is necessary to be accountable for your actions. Troupe in a Trunk will grab its trunk and tour the schools from the last week of March through the second week in April. For further information contact Sandy Davisson at (941)486-8679. EVERY SPRING TROUPE IN A TRUNK TRAVELS AROUND TO APPROXIMATELY 9,000 AREA SCHOOL CHILDREN...inspriring thier imagination.
Troupe in a Trunk is an outreach program of Venice Theatre. Troupe inspires students' imaginations by bringing live performances to Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte County elementary schools. Troupe encourages students to use their creativity as a learning tool, by engaging senses not ordinarily utilized. Before each performance, the theatre provides teachers with materials related to the play. The teachers and students have the opportunity for discussion before or after the performance. Each school is also requested to assess and evaluate the performances in an effort to improve future productions. THANKS to our sponsors the performances are offered to the schools free of charge. Last spring Troupe hit the road and reached 8,400 area students with Ron Myroup's adaption of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. Venice Theatre’s Education and Outreach Director, Sandy Davisson, directed this beautiful group of actors. MANY THANKS TO OUR SPONSORVENICE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB and TARGET!
