Policies for Education & Outreach Department classes, camps and productions

Please read the following statement regarding our classes and productions at Venice Theatre. It is important that both the parent/guardian and the student fully understand these house rules.

  1. I understand performing activities have inherent and necessary risks, and that Venice Theatre does not assume any responsibility for injury
  2. I understand that all fees and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. No credit will be given for days missed. A registration will not be guaranteed without a registration form AND full payment or first installment of EZ PAY. Vencie Theatre will contact you if there is a question about your registration. A confirmation will be mailed to you within 7 business days.
  3. I understand that Venice Theatre and the Faculty have the right to dismiss a participant whose conduct, influence or behavior is deemed unsatisfactory to the best interest of the class. Venice Theatre must be informed of any special needs PRIOR to registering.
  4. I will allow Venice Theatre to photograph and/or videotape my child for publicity purposes.
  5. I agree to the following policy regarding these specific medical situations:
    • Due to legal restrictions Venice Theatre staff WILL NOT DISTRIBUTE any type of medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to any student at any time.
    • Our First Aid policy will be limited to minor injuries such as, but not limited to cuts, bruises, etc.
  6. I agree to the following regarding dress code:
    • NO midriff-length or short tops – tummies must be covered
    • NO sandals, heels etc. – must wear tennis shoes
    • NO skirts, dresses or revealing shorts (Students move around a lot in dance class!) If shorts are too revealing the student will be provided with appropriate attire.
    • NO suggestive sayings of any kind on T-shirts, no shorts with wording on back of shorts
    • TO KEEP IT SIMPLE – T-shirts, tennis shoes and loose-fitting clothing are best
  7. I agree to the following Drop Off and Pick Up policy:
    • If your child is under the age of 18, and will be riding home with someone other than a parent, a note must be sent ahead of the date(s) that this will occur. Upon pickup of the child by someone other than a parent, that person must present proper identification.
    • Child will be delivered and picked up at the Theatre in a timely fashion. (This is very important, as no child will be left unattended at the theatre after a class or performance.)
    • Because no minor will be left unattended, we must enforce a 5-minute rule. Simply stated, a child must NOT be dropped off or picked up more than 5 minutes too early or 5 minutes too late. If parents do not abide by this policy and it occurs 3 times, the child will be cut from the program with no refunds.
    • My child has my permission to drive to and from camp.
  8. I agree to attend a brief meeting for parents/guardians on the first day of class/camp/rehearsal regarding the policies of the program and theatre. This time will allow parents to ask questions or express concerns.
  9. Venice Theatre's Board of Directors has enacted a harassment policy, which includes sexual harassment guidelines. Essentially, nothing should get in the way of students being able to give their best, be treated fairly and being safe from unwanted attentions or actions. The policy also forbids inappropriate contact and overt sexual behavior of all kinds, especially if and when minors are involved. Do not engage in any of this behavior. If behavior of this kind happens to you, report it immediately to a teacher and/or the Director of Education and Outreach, Sandy Davisson, so that we may follow up and resolve the issue. We cannot act unless we know about it. Inappropriate contact, behavior or coercion may lead to dismissal from theatre productions and activities — and possibly to criminal investigations. All reports will be handled in confidence appropriate to the resolution of the issue. Most productions, including TheatreFest and Generations shows, will feature adults and children working together in some capacity. Parents are asked to specifically counsel their children concerning inappropriate behavior and how to handle and report it.
  10. Venice Theatre believes in equal opportunity for all participants and does not discriminate based on race, national origin, disability or any other characteristics protected by law. Venice Theatre wishes all participants to be able to participate in a friendly, social productive atmosphere. Staff is expected to treat everyone with courtesy and professionalism and expects the same in return.

We get the most satisfaction from a job well done. Have a great time!
