Well, the new site is almost up . . .
About six weeks ago, we ‘took down’ VLT’s extensive website. We had just added online ticket sales and a revamp of everything was called for to make it possible to buy tickets from any location on the site instead of just the front page. In its place - as those of you who have visited know - we have temporarily had a stripped down single page with a minimal amount of information on current events.
The goal was to be up with the new, redesigned website around Labor Day. Ladies and gentlemen, thanks to a lot of hard work by Bruce Baughman and your loyal VLT staff, we will make our deadline. Look for the site this weekend. It looks quite different and it’s not entirely there yet - we will continue to add pages as they’re ready. So take a moment and visit www.venicestage.com. Let us know what you think! (And while you’re there, of course, buy some tickets!)
Leslie and Ricky arrived from New York . . .
. . . and they’re so pleased with their accommodations here in Venice, that they’re staying for a month to ABSOLUTELY WOW YOU with their Johnny Mercer Show. They have been voted the "Best Cabaret Duo in New York City". You’re not going to want to miss this one. Great stuff. Opens tonight. The Johnny Mercer Birthday Show - thru September 25. Tickets are $20.00
Auditions for Golf, The Musical . . .
. . the what? Yep, a whole raucous musical about the game Mark Twain called " a good walk spoiled". AUDITIONS are October 2-3 at 7:30 p.m. here at the theatre. Allan Kollar directs, Rick Bogner reigns supreme behind the keyboard.
. . . and you’ll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for . . .
. . . THREE actually, (three wheels that is). We need an adult tricycle or adult 3-wheel bicycle for use in Beauty and the Beast. This has to be a donation. We won’t ask to borrow because once we’re done with it . . . well, your editor hears that it might take quite a beating in the show. So, if you have one of those three wheeled bikes that you’d like to get out of the garage once and for all, give it to us and we’ll ‘put it on stage’!
Hello Amy and Nick . .
. . . and welcome to VLT. Amy Watson and Nick Hartman have joined the VLT staff. Amy is our new Customer Services Manager and Nick is our new Assistant Costumer. Both are swell and we’re delighted to have them here.
Got computer skills and a friendly attitude?
Then you’ll fit right into our intrepid and splendid corp of Box Office Volunteers. Most folks work one or two mornings or afternoons a week. It’s a great environment and fun is often had (according to reports). We can always use a few more good people. Contact Sara in the Box Office or at
saratrembly@venicestage.comFall classes registration underway . . .
. . . and here’s the whole story below. Registration brochures are available at the Box Office, the Education office and will be available on the website after Saturday.
Students may also register by phone with a credit card by calling Sandy or Grace in the Education Department at 486-8679. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit and a completed registration form are required to guarantee a space in a class.Enrollment is limited and will be on a first come basis. Classes begin the week of September 12, 2005 and run 8-10 weeks. The Theatre is offering a new and expanded curriculum for students of all ages. Classes for "budding little actors" include Showbiz, Mom/Dad and Me for Pre-K students and their parent(s), Little Stars on Stage for K-1 with Beginning and Intermediate Sessions, and Stars on Stage for Grade 2. These classes are an adventure into the wonderful world of acting and musical theatre. Instructors include Clair Lockeyear and Matt McCord.
VLT will continue to offer two sessions of its very popular Beginning Creative Dramatics class for Grades 3-5 and 6-8. Two new class offerings include The Broadway Stars (Grades 3-5) which explores general and musical theatre, and helps develop the skills of acting, dance and voice and the overall theatrical experience and The Actor’s Choice (Grades 6-8) which focuses on improv and script analysis exploring character, structure and environment. Both The Broadway Stars and The Actor’s Choice classes will have corresponding performance classes that will be offered in the Spring of 2006. Becky Holahan, Brad Wages and Gianna Campo will be the instructors for these classes.
Sandy Davisson will teach Technical Theatre’s The Other Side, a unique class for Grades 7 through Teens. This class affords students the opportunity to work behind the scenes; these students will crew for the Performance Arts Class.
This year experienced student actors will have two challenging opportunities. In Anything Goes!, with Brad Wages instructing, contemporary issues will be explored and critiqued by the students through music, art, literature and sound effects. Gianna Campo will teach The Yellow Boat Class, tackling more complex issues for the experienced actors. (The script to be used as the foundation for the class is a middle school piece about a young man with AIDS.)
VLT will also have new offerings for its Teens Only classes this Fall. Dance "5-6-7-8" with Brad Wages, will instruct in the techniques of musical theatre. Prepping for College Auditions is designed to help prepare students for the theatrical college auditioning experience; Gianna Campo is the instructor.
Broadway actor Larry Alexander will conduct The Musical , a three-day intensive musical workshop focusing on selection, preparation and presentation of material, and fine-tuning of all the elements necessary to prepare for musical auditions.
For adults, the theatre offers three classes and a workshop. Brad Wages will teach Adult Dance "5-6-7-8" to which new and returning students are welcomed. Being Heard, with instructor Gianna Campo, is a voice based class for adult actors and singers. It will provide all experience levels the unique opportunity to create original characters and monologues. Larry Alexander will conduct a four-day workshop for adults focusing on selection, preparation and presentation of two monologues per student. All of these classes are geared to help students sharpen their audition and performance skills.
Once again, VLT offers Creative Dramatics for the Developmentally Challenged, a class that explores imagination, listening skills and much more through a wide range of theatre games and exercises. Matt McCord, director of the theatre’s annual Loveland Follies, instructs.
